Dr Margarita Tareyn

Dr Margarita Tareyn is a doctor of clinical psychology with scientific and clinical expertise in the field of analytical psychosomatics of oncological diseases. Her professional path unites clinical practice, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, psycho-oncology, teaching and research activities.

She trained in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and analytical psychosomatics in Bulgaria and in Paris at the Institut „IPSO Pierre Marty“. She completed a professional internship in a mobile palliative care team at the University Hospital „Pitié-Salpêtrière–Charles Foix“ in France.

She began her psychotherapeutic practice in 2005. She has many years of experience in individual and group psychotherapeutic work with people with affective, anxiety and other mental disorders, patients with oncological and other severe illnesses, people in crisis and terminal states, relatives of patients and healthcare professionals.

Since 2010 she has collaborated with the Association of Patients with Oncological Diseases on initiatives related to developing a standard for psychological care for patients with cancer, supervision of teams of psychologists, training for doctors and nurses, and conducting patient forums.

Since 2013 she has worked as a clinical psychologist at Acibadem City Clinic UMBAL Tokuda, and since 2016 also at Acibadem City Clinic Mladost. She heads the Centre for Clinical Psychology, Psycho-Oncology and Psychosomatics at both medical establishments.

She teaches in the Master's programme in clinical psychology at Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski“, as well as at the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. The main areas of her teaching work are psycho-oncology, psychosomatics, psychotherapy, medical ethics and the doctor–patient relationship.

Dr Tareyn is a certified leader of a Balint group, founder and honorary member of the Bulgarian Association of Psycho-Oncology.

Clinical and scientific interests

Her professional interests include psychotherapy for affective, anxiety and other mental disorders; analytical psychosomatics; psychotherapeutic work with people with oncological and other severe illnesses; psychological support for disability, terminal states, crises and loss; as well as the development of psychosomatic therapeutic programmes accompanying medical treatment.

She works on topics related to the psychological aspects of neurological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, endocrine and other diseases, doctor–patient communication and relationship, medical ethics and scientific research in the field of psychosomatic medicine.
