The Institute of Medical Psychology, Psycho-Oncology and Psychosomatics develops specialised training programmes for psychologists, aimed at building upon professional knowledge and skills for work in clinical and healthcare contexts.
The training programmes connect scientific knowledge with practical clinical experience and place emphasis on understanding the person as a whole – psychological functioning, bodily experience, relationships, life history and social environment.
The training covers topics from clinical psychology, psychodiagnostics and clinical assessment, psycho-oncology, psychosomatics, psychotherapy, crisis interventions, working with loss and grief, child and family functioning, and psychological work with severe and chronic illnesses.
Particular attention is given to the clinical interview and case formulation, the selection and interpretation of psychodiagnostic instruments, building the therapeutic framework, the psychologist–patient relationship, work with relatives and families, interaction with medical specialists, professional boundaries and ethical issues in clinical practice.
The training formats may include lectures, practical seminars, case-based work, discussion groups, supervision formats and specialised thematic programmes, led by specialists with clinical, academic and teaching experience.
The programmes are intended both for psychologists at the beginning of their professional path and for practising specialists who wish to expand their competencies in a particular clinical area.
Our aim is not merely to impart knowledge, but to develop clinical thinking – the ability to understand the person beyond the individual symptom, test result or diagnosis.
