Dr Margarita Tareyn, director of the Institute, received the Annual Award named after Assoc. Prof. Dr Krasimir Kirov, oncologist, dermatologist and surgeon, who laid the foundations of innovative melanoma treatment in Bulgaria. The distinction is awarded by the Bulgarian Association of Dermato-Oncology (BADO) for achievements in medicine and support for the development of dermato-oncology in Bulgaria.

Her award was presented at a special ceremony during the 3rd National Congress of Dermato-Oncology, held in Sofia.

“I am immensely grateful for this award, because to me it is a symbol that our work – psychosocial care – can indeed be integrated into medicine, and that we can be of help to one another and to our patients in the most humane way possible, despite the difficulties we sometimes encounter,” said Dr Tareyn.

Dr Margarita Tareyn trained in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and analytical psychosomatics in Bulgaria and in Paris. She is founder and honorary member of the Bulgarian Association of Psycho-Oncology. She trains and builds a network of clinical psychologists working with cancer patients, provides free counselling to patients and conducts training for physicians and nurses. She lectures at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and at the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics.
